The inspiration for Bearbottom Clothing came in 2012 when Robert Felder visited Bangladesh. Being in one of the world’s poorest countries, Robert saw first-hand the immense poverty and need for necessities like clothing-especially for children. He wanted to help, but wasn’t sure exactly how he could make a difference.
Soon after returning home, Robert noticed a spike in online brands. Living in Florida, shorts are for every day of the year, but finding stylish and affordable shorts was a common issue. Robert noticed there was a gap in the market while scouring the web for the few shorts that were available. It was impossible to find high quality shorts, with all the features we wanted, that didn’t break the bank. He also realized this was his opportunity to help the people of Bangladesh with the two things he saw they needed most from his trip: jobs and clothing for children. Not only would he be able to bring jobs to the region, but also he could directly donate items to workers' families.
After over a year of developing, sampling, planning, and website building, Bearbottom Clothing launched in January 2014. Years later, we've expanded our product line, team, and warehouse so we can continue to design the best adventure-ready and everyday wear around.
How do we help?
For every single item we sell, we donate a pair of shorts to a child in need in Bangladesh.
We work with amazing partners who ensure that we are supporting sustainable development. This means giving in a way that is best for the local community. We started donating to our garment workers' families then began sending clothes to other factories in the wider community of Dhaka-the capital of Bangladesh. Next, we began donating to schools, hospitals, orphanages, and public spaces like train stations. Additionally, our manufacturing partners provide garment workers with awesome benefits like full-time on site medical staff, meals, child care centers, and women’s empowerment programs.
Spreading the word helps us lay the foundation for more jobs in these communities while providing children with clothing they desperately need. We would love to talk to you more about what we’ve been up to and what we have planned for the future. Feel free to contact us by email or social media. We look forward to continued success providing you the products you love while helping the people of Bangladesh.
